The last girl I have slated for my citygirls series (at least until I have more time later) was Julie. An aspiring casting director, she currently freelances for music videos and what not. Here’s what we got.

This picture is a bit smiley for me, but it was the beginning of the shoot and she has a great smile. I threw this one because of the awesome colors.

I really like the lighting and mood of this next one

This one is actually pretty close to what was shot in-camera (RAW files with b&w preview). It’s nice when a mistake makes a picture.

I’m a whore for these natural flares. I’ll never trade in my older lenses.

I shot Aleece last night (or early morning depending on your lifestyle). She rocked this black dress that looked amazing in the photos.

This next image just blows me away

hehe this next photo got us harshly scolded by security (she wore my sandals under the water)

I love her shoulder line in this shot.

Last night I shot Paulina in the late night. She has a more elegant side, so I let her do her own thing and work her own style. I decided to have the whole shoot in black and white, given the location and her clothing. Also, it has that classic and clean look that makes Paulina shine.

This is my favorite shot. By the end of the shoot Paulina was relaxed and in the flow. This gave her the look that I was hoping to get from her.

This Sunday I organized my first fashion shoot, securing a great team and location. This was mostly an experiment in lighting, versus a commercial shoot with a marketing objective. Here are the shots and at the bottom are the credits.

Onetri National Ad Shoot

I shot an advertisement piece for Onetri, a new but expanding triathlon company based here in Orange County. This was a quickie shoot, with the first part being in a commercial parking lot and the second part in Laguna Beach.

Abstract Smoke Photography

I’ve been staying up late until 5AM again working on expanding the horizons of my photography. And no these are not induced by drug use…

These are all done on my kitchen table with a fat slice of mushy bread as my incense holder (I didn’t have any clay or play-doh). Post-production is done in photoshop to create the colors. I used a black background from a 50″ reflector (black cloth side) and an AB1600 strobe snooted down to minimize light on the black backdrop. Camera was on a tripod hooked up to a Pocket Wizard for remote firing, which allowed me to play with the smoke as it rose. I used my 5D Mark II for better cropping (since smoke is all over the place) with manual focusing @ f14, 1/200, iso200.

Milk Drop Photography

I’ve been experimenting with high speed photography, specifically with liquids such as milk. Actually I used half and half, since it is more viscous. I had to actually build a circuit board to ensure the right moment is captured, such as when the milk drop “crowns.” Check out the results:

No this is not a marble. Liquids don’t make a teardrop shape without friction, so the viscous surface retains a spherical shape.

And here is the board I built, using a Hi-Viz optical kit. One gray wire goes to the optical trigger, while the other goes to my strobe.

Now I have to go clean my kitchen before Judy kills me; it has rainbow splashes all over!

Oh yeah, strobist info: 580ex sync’d to the circuitboard at 1/128 power. camera at iso400, f14, shutter on bulb varying from 2′ to 4′

Sports Photography – MMA Stock Images

Today I shot some stock photography for an MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) website (yet to be disclosed). These included some basic images of techniques with various MMA gear. I had to do a couple fighter-style portraits. They are actually nice guys so don’t let the images fool you:

Yeah, rear naked chokes tend to ruin my day too…

Makes me want to get back into Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, though I think I’ll pass on being a human punching bag.

Import Auto Photography – Graffiti

Tonight we did a fun photo session of a Z with Doug of Furious Photographers. Using strobes and flashlights, we busted out some wicked lighting. All these images have had only mild post done to them, specifically contrast.

That last one was not photoshopped. Strobes under the car knocked out the shadows, giving it that floating look.

Here’s Doug busting out some low-angle shots of the rear.

My personal favorite is this light-painted one. NO PHOTOSHOPPING. I only adjusted the contrast, since the lighting pushed the levels brighter.
