Judy and I were recently married, which makes us a husband-wife team!!!
I’m such a dork. Jeni and Jay had their wedding reception at the Milwaukee Public Museum, where Samson (a famous award-winning stuffed gorilla) is housed. They happily went along with this:
I’ve done about 3 blogs posts in the past year! That’s really bad.
Today I shot Mirna and Marcus over at the Getty Center in West Los Angeles. They are getting married in Miami later this year, but wanted some Los Angeles engagement photos over here in socal.
On the way back from WPPI in Las Vegas, I was determined to scout the desert. Judy was my test subject and this is what we came out with.
I was contracted by USA Swimming, the largest swim organization in the country, to do marketing and promo shots for their 2010 redesign. We pulled in nearly every major US swim Olympian (except Phelps) for the shoot. Here’s Matt Grevers cheering on a swimmer at the end of the lane… and checking the posted [...]
Today I shot Tiff and Greg. They’re having their wedding at the Casa Del Mar in Santa Monica, which is actually one of the first venues I had second-shot at.

Hey everyone! I’m going to start posting a picture for every week. This could be just any picture, but it’s really to show off a single image that I think is special in some way. It’s also so I can get my lazy butt posting more articles. I’ll also explain how I got the image, [...]
Today I shot Afsoon and Mehdi, who are getting married in Iran but wanted their engagement pictures here at home in Los Angeles. We started at UCLA and hopped down to Santa Monica.
The last girl I have slated for my citygirls series (at least until I have more time later) was Julie. An aspiring casting director, she currently freelances for music videos and what not. Here’s what we got.
I shot Aleece last night (or early morning depending on your lifestyle). She rocked this black dress that looked amazing in the photos.
Tonight I shot Jody, My, and My’s friend Mikela. Mikela isn’t a model, but is visiting from Italy. I had to get a shot of her.
Tonight I shot Ginger, who I stumbled across on Model Mayhem. She has a sexier look about her, which really shows.
Last night I shot Paulina in the late night. She has a more elegant side, so I let her do her own thing and work her own style. I decided to have the whole shoot in black and white, given the location and her clothing. Also, it has that classic and clean look that makes [...]
I shot Cristina and Daniel today at the La Venta Inn in Palos Verdes today. She got ready at her parents’ home in Lomita.
Tonight I shot Shasta for my little citygirls project. We started at my place, since she needed some studio headshots. Shasta trains horses while she attends school. So if you see horseshoes, they are not for luck; she has one for every time that she has been kicked by a horse (5 total).
I’m starting a series titled citygirls and it is an artistic concept in the making. As I shoot these models, the series will progress into the mood and style that I have stuck in my head. So here is round 1 with Summer: Let me know what you think. I’m still figuring it all out.
This Sunday I organized my first fashion shoot, securing a great team and location. This was mostly an experiment in lighting, versus a commercial shoot with a marketing objective. Here are the shots and at the bottom are the credits. Photography by Gavin Photography, assisted by Doug Chan of Furious Photographers Modeled by Judy Le [...]
I shot an advertisement piece for Onetri, a new but expanding triathlon company based here in Orange County. This was a quickie shoot, with the first part being in a commercial parking lot and the second part in Laguna Beach.
Kelly and Glen decided on UCLA and Santa Monica for their pics, so I try to get new pics whenever I shoot at the same location (especially when it is the next week).
Today I shot Sudheer and Caitlin’s engagement photo session. We all descended from UCLA (actually I ascended from the bowels of the engineering hall, Boelter), so it was pretty cool to visit old hangout spots. Many of these spots were awesome for that midday college nap in the shady grass of a brick building.
Stephanie and Nathan got married down in San Juan Capistrano at this awesome ranch called Rancho Capistrano. They originally met in North Carolina, but they are settling here in Orange County.
I’ve been staying up late until 5AM again working on expanding the horizons of my photography. And no these are not induced by drug use…
Vivian Tran of All Made Up held a makeup seminar today at S Fine Dining.
Theresa and Darryl are both from Atlanta, but decided to have their wedding at a friend’s house up in Pasadena. They are an awesome couple together. Darryl is really goofy and it shows in the photos.
I’ve been experimenting with high speed photography, specifically with liquids such as milk.
I don’t care if you shoot in RAW. Color gels allow you to control the light sources COMPARED to other sources.
Somehow I became the designated family photographer. Go figure.
I was shooting for Steve Hoffmann today and got a chance to experiment with my new Pocket Wizard (PW for short) Mini TT1 and TT5.
